Join us for an exclusive workshop in the Be Just Classroom, where Virginia-based, internationally acclaimed artist Michelle Gagliano will discuss her journey toward becoming an active member of the prestigious Gallery Climate Coalition— a group of only about a dozen artists worldwide committed to reducing and reporting their carbon emissions. Michelle will offer an overview of natural pigment-making processes and principles, explaining their environmental impact, and will guide participants in crafting their own non-toxic pigments at home. The tempera techniques taught in this workshop are inspired by those of the Masters, such as Da Vinci, and bring timeless, unique artistry into the present day.

All necessary materials will be provided, and participants will take home artwork created in the class and tempera pigment recipes for further practice.

About the Instructor:

Michelle Gagliano has permeated the American art scene with extensive solo exhibitions and curated group shows throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Gagliano’s accolades are extensive, including the coveted Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship and innovative, collaborative projects with symphonic musicians and published authors. Her works continue to be curated into major private and corporate collections, both within the United States and abroad. In the summer of 2018, Gagliano eliminated all toxic materials from her practice, introducing instead ground pigments, oils and solvents based in nuts and lavender, and handmade gessoes.
