Summer Flamenco Series - 06.08.22 + 06.15.22, 6:30 PM - 8 PM

$255.00

Join us for a very special Summer Flamenco Series at our Classroom in Belmont. This is a two-part series that will take place on June 8th and June 15th, from 6:30-8pm. Tracy Verkerke, graduate of the renowned Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, will lead participants through an exploration of basic Flamenco movements and percussion techniques.

From the instructor: "Flamenco is a passionate dance and music art form forged in 15th century Andalusia (southern Spain) during the repressive reign of Ferdinand and Isabella.  It was originally an expression of resistance that combined song, rhythm and dance from Romani, Indian, Moorish, Jewish, and Spanish people all struggling in the same region. Now it is a World Heritage art form that is cherished and practiced world wide.  Flamenco is performed today in dazzling theatrical venues, small clubs, or tablaos and in street clothes on pieces of wood in the street for tourists in Spain.  Flamenco rhythms are marked with your body, your feet, your voice, clapping, snapping and castanets. We will start to learn a funky flamenco choreography and make some noise! Ole, ole, ole!"
