Introduction to Block Printing with Josef Beery

Join us for an introduction to the joy of block printing led by local printmaker: Josef Beery. Participants will learn the history of this art form, as well as how to cut their own pattern blocks while experimenting with shapes and colors to produce their own unique prints. Each participants will be able to make their own pack of six block-printed notecards - perfect to have on hand ahead of the holiday season.
This class can be enjoyed by all skill levels and all necessary materials will be provided!
About the instructor:
Josef Beery is a well-known Virginia printmaker and educator specializing in botanical subjects. He is the cofounder of the book arts program at the Virginia Center for the Book and a guest artist at UVA’s Rare Book School. He is a letterpress printer creating collectible hand made broadsides for a poets and writers. He is the creator of the BookBeetle Press, a desktop replica of an 18C printing press used to teach the history of printing at dozens of colleges and universities.
